Gujarat Budget 2020-21: Highlights for Animal Husbandry sector

Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat  Nitinbhai Patel presented in the Assembly on 26th Feb, the State Budget for the financial year 2020-2021. This is the 8th budget he has presented in the capacity of the Finance Minister of Gujarat. The main outlay of the budget for the Gujarat Animal Husbandry is given below.

Along with agricultural income, the income generated from animal husbandry contributes significantly to the rural economy. The provisions for this Sector are;

  • Provision of `200 cr has been made for Mukhya Mantri Pashudan Sahay Yojana for providing cattle feed at a concessional rate. Provision of `100 cr as one-time subvention for upgrading Panjara Pols.
    • cattle feed will be provided at 50% concessional rate for one month when their cow or buffalo give birth to a calf. This will provide healthy, nutritious feed to milch animals. A provision of `200 cr. to provide benefit to approximately 15 lakh livestock owner members of village milk co-operatives of the state.

  • Provision of `81cr for providing subvention to livestock owners under various schemes like a dairy farm, animal unit and goat unit etc.
  • Provision of `43 cr for setting up a new veterinary college at Rajpur Nava, Himmatnagar; a centre for postgraduate study in fisheries; the setting up of veterinary institutes and the construction of Intensive livestock conservation offices.
  • Provision of `35 cr to provide one veterinary centre per every 10 villages in the state.
  • Provision of `32 cr for carrying out conservation activities for the indigenous “Gir and Kankarej’’ cow breeds of Gujarat.
  • Provision of `27 cr for Mukhya Mantri Nishulk Poshu Saravar Yojana.
  • Provision of `13 cr for service of Karuna Ambulance -1962 for strengthening this service in the cities of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Mehsana.
