Karnataka Milk Federation cuts down procurement price by Rs 2 per liter

On one hand there is Nation-wide stir going on in the country by the Farmers demanding fair prices for their produce and on the other, Milk unions under the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited (KMF) has cut down the procurement price of milk by Rs 1.50 to Rs 2 per liter with effect from June 1. This cut in procurement price will affect nearly 24 lakh milk producers of the state associated with KMF.

KMF which sells its products under the brand name of NANDINI is having 70% market share in Karnataka and procures about 75 lakh liter of milk per day from the state. In Karnataka farmers supplying milk to KMF get a support price of Rs 5 per litre from the state government. As cited by the reliable sources from KMF, the cut in procurement price is done mainly due to surplus collection of milk. As such the Milk industry Nationwide is facing the problem of surplus skimmed powder in the tune of 2 lakh tones.
