Jute Coats for the cows of Ayodhya

Pashu Sandesh, 24 November 2019

With the winter setting in, Ayodhya Municipality in Uttar Pradesh has decided to keep its Cows in the shelters protected from the searing cold winds. Ayodhya has always been in the focus for a different reason but this news has put a smile on all animal lovers especially cow lovers. Winters in the Uttar Pradesh are pretty nasty taking a toll on lives of both Humans and Animals in large numbers.

Three types of coats would be made for the cattle with a three-layer coat for the calves, two layers for the cows and single layer jute coat for the bulls. The three-layer coat for the calves would have the innermost soft layer and would provide maximum warmth.

Straw would also be spread on the floor to provide a dry surface for sitting. Along with all these measures, bonfires would also be arranged for keeping the bovines warm during chilly nights.

Niraj Shukla, Nagar Nigam Commissioner of Ayodhya, in a statement said, "We are in the process of getting the cow coats made. This scheme will be implemented in three-four phases. First, we are starting with Baishingpur cow shelter, which houses around 1,200 cattle including 700 bulls and the rest being cows and calves. We have initially placed an order for 100 cow coats for the calves."

The idea behind the scheme is to create model Goushalas which would be an example for other Gaushalas in the State to emulate.
