BESTIALITY: OBNOXIOUS EVIL!

Sexual assault of animals is a sensitive and uncomfortable issue for those involved and is often met with silence and inaction. It is a crime of abuse and cruelty shrouded in sexual violence (Ascione 2005). One cannot ignore the fact that this form of abuse inflicts serious harm and sometimes death on the victim.Sexual abuse of animal has also been recognized as one of the early warning signs of psychological dysfunction, including conduct disorder in children and adolescents. The species of animals that offenders abuse include chickens, dogs, cats, horses, cows, sheep and goats with either male or female animal involved.

Bestiality

Bestiality (inter carnal sex or sex between man and animals) is one of the most varnishing issue as we are in the 21^st century but one bad side of our society is due to lack of availability of sexual partner, poor literacy rate, lack of sexual awareness. Some abominable thinkers are caught is the theft of Bestiality. It means carnal intercourse with man, women or animal against the order of nature. This type of crime is more frequently found in India due to the following reasons.

1. The common belief among illiterate people that intercourse with a she-donkey is a remedy of gonorrhea.
2. Excessive sexual desire with less opportunity for natural intercourse.
3. Young villagers who go out to graze cattle fields far away from human eye are incited owing to loneliness and proximity of animals to commit this crime.
4. People having some mental abnormalities.

In bestiality human male is generally the active agent and the passive agent is a she-goat, donkey, mare and cow.

Examination of animal for Bestiality

1. The offenders are usually caught red-handed.
2. The vagina of animal should be examined for evidence of injury and the accused examined for marks of injuries caused by kicks, teeth or claw of animal.
3. The surrounding hairs of the animal should be examined for the presence of human spermatozoa.
4. The presence of organisms of Gonorrhea in the vagina of the animal is sure sign of bestiality.
5. The clothes of accused will give off a smell of urine or faeces of the animas as after a sexual act animal have a habit of urinating.

PUNISHMENT

Bestiality is punishable under section 377 of INDIAN PENAL CODE.

IPC 377–Unnatural offences. Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, women or animal, shall be punished with 1(imprisonment of life), or with imprisonment of either description for term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.

In a report, it was estimated that 8% of male and 3.6 % of females had engaged in some sort of sexual act with an animal.

 Some present reports

In Betul district Madhya Pradesh, a cow was raped by a 50 years old drunk man who was arrested for sexually assaulting the cow and charged under Section 377 of Indian Penal Code.

8 men in Haryana raped a pregnant goat, 18 year boy from Najafgarh, Delhi committed bestiality with a Baby cow, and 27 year old boy has been arrested in Jaipur for allegedly having unnatural sex with a calf.
