Govt to procure Cow Dung in Chattisgarh

In an online press conference, chief minister of Chattisgarh Bhupender Baghel announced the “Gaudhan Nyay Yojna.” Under this scheme, the state government will procure the cow dung from farmers. The scheme will be initiated from the “Hareli festival” next month. As per the Chief Minister, this scheme will generate an extra income of Rs two to three thousand per month for farmers. While giving the details of the scheme CM informed that vermin composted manure will be prepared from the procured cow dung involving the women self-help groups of the state. This vermin composted manure will be sold to the farmers as well as to the government departments involved in plantation and horticulture activities.

To decide the rates for procurement of cow dung, a subcommittee of five ministers under the chairmanship of agriculture minister Ravinder Chovey will we constituted soon. This committee will decide the procurement price of cow dung after making consultation with all the stockholders involved in the process.  Another committee under the chairmanship of chief secretary will look after the financial implications, production and marketing of the vermin composted manure.

Chief Minister said that this scheme will change the scenario of stray cattle menses. When farmers will get money for cow dung, they will not abandon their cattle. This will prevent crop damage and address the problem of road accidents and traffic disturbance caused by stray cattle.
