Governments update on flagship schems in Loksabha

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, informed the Lok Sabha that the Central Government is continuing its efforts to strengthen India's dairy and livestock sectors through targeted interventions in dairy infrastructure development, breed improvement, entrepreneurship promotion and animal health management.

Providing an update on the Nationwide Artificial Insemination Programme(NAIP) at the national level, over 17.27 crore artificial inseminations have been carried out during the last five years benefiting nearly 5.98 crore farmers. The Government has also trained 47,687 MAITRIs, established 24 IVF laboratories, sanctioned 48 semen stations and approved 28 heifer rearing centres.

 National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), the Minister informed that as of June 2026, 36,611 new Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCSs) have been formed across the country, while 34,557 village-level dairy cooperative societies have been strengthened. The programme has also facilitated the creation of approximately 168 lakh litres per day of milk chilling capacity and the distribution of 76,748 milk quality testing devices.

Under the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), projects with a cumulative milk processing and value-addition capacity of 418 lakh litres per day have been approved. The Government also noted that the Milk Supply Review Dashboard Portal, integrated with the National Cooperative Database, currently records three active dairy cooperative societies in Delhi.

Under the National Livestock Mission (NLM), 4,084 breed multiplication farms have been approved, while 1.61 lakh metric tonnes of quality fodder seed have been produced. Additionally, 204 silage and Total Mixed Ration (TMR) units have been sanctioned to strengthen fodder availability and livestock nutrition.

The Minister further informed that the Entrepreneurship Development Programme under NLM has approved 4,291 projects involving investments worth ₹2,956.79 crore, with subsidies amounting to ₹1,356.53 crore. These projects are expected to create around 21,000 direct jobs and provide indirect benefits to nearly 91,000 farmers.

On the animal health front, the Government highlighted the continued implementation of large-scale vaccination campaigns against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Brucellosis, Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) and Classical Swine Fever under the Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP).

The House was also informed that the national mock exercise, Pashujanya Yudh Abhyas (PYA) 2026, conducted in Madhya Pradesh from June 29 to July 3, was successfully evaluated.
