In a significant move to strengthen India's cooperative sector, the Ministry of Cooperation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swiggy Instamart. This collaboration aims to bring cooperative dairy and other products to a broader consumer base through Swiggy's e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms.
Under this agreement, products from Bharat Organics and various cooperative dairy brands will be featured in a newly created "Cooperative" category on Swiggy Instamart. This dedicated section will showcase a range of items, including organic products, dairy, millets, handicrafts, and more developed by cooperative organizations.
The MoU was formalized on Friday, with Swiggy Instamart CEO Amitesh Jha and the Ministry's Joint Secretary D.K. Verma signing the document. Cooperation Secretary Ashish Kumar Bhutani was also present at the ceremony.
"The signing of the MoU will facilitate cooperatives to connect to new-age customers through new-age technologies," the ministry stated. The partnership focuses on supporting cooperative brands in marketing, promotion, consumer technology, and capacity building.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations' declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Cooperation. Swiggy and the Ministry plan to launch an awareness campaign to promote cooperative movements across the country .
A day prior to the MoU signing, the Cooperation Secretary inaugurated a state-of-the-art packaging facility for National Cooperative Organics Limited in Noida. This facility focuses on packaging pulses and organic food products, further supporting the cooperative sector's growth .
This partnership marks a significant step in leveraging digital platforms to enhance the reach and visibility of cooperative products, aiming to empower local producers and meet the evolving demands of modern consumers.
