Pashu Sandesh, 14th September 2017

Indian council of Agriculture research (ICAR) cannot give recognition or affiliation to any college or university. Information in this regard has been given by the accreditation board secretary of the ICAR, in a public notice dated 5th of September 2017. This notice clearly clarifies that the ICAR is only an Accreditation body and it is not in its purview to accord/award recognition or affiliation to any institute or university.

Notice also clarifies that ICAR is a society registered under society registration act 1860 and function under Department of Agriculture research and Education (DARE) as an autonomous body. Due to the non-statutory status of the organization, it does not have the power to recognize or affiliate any college or university.

To maintain the uniformity and the high standards of education across all the agriculture and other related institutes of the country, ICAR only give accreditation. It is expected from the institutions to maintain at least the minimum standards set by the ICAR for providing quality education and acceptance of courses among the prospective aspirants.

Notice further clarifies that the running of agriculture institutions and opening new agriculture universities is the subject matter of the states; hence ICAR cannot recommend anything further in this regard. ICAR can only accredit the institution or university which is a voluntary process. Further Institutions and Universities can ask for accreditation from any other competent body.
