Largest Milk Cooperative of India reelects Shankar Choudhary as its Chairman

Largest Milk Cooperative of India, Banas Dairy reelects Shankar Choudhary as the Chairman of the cooperative. Shankar Choudhary, a former Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education, Environment (Independent charges) and Urban Development in Gujarat and a BJP MLA was declared reelected unanimously at the meeting of Board of Directors on Monday. Choudhary lost his MLA seat at the recently held Gujarat state elections in 2017. Mavjibhai Desai was also reelected as the Vice Chairman of the Banas dairy.

After his reelection Shankar Choudhary highlighted his priorities. He said, his top priority would be toward the welfare of over 4lac Farmers of the cooperative. He proposed a multi-specialty hospital and Medical college at Palanpur district which would look after the health of the Farmers and their families. He also said that the Banas Dairy would make every effort to increase the procurement of Milk from the present 67lac liters per day to 1 crore Liters per day by 2020. 

Banas Dairy has spread its operations outside the Gujarat to Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and because of its efficient management has been able to provide better rate of milk to its Farmer members even in the lean season. Shankar on this occasion also mentioned about the ‘sweet revolution’ which has provided additional income to the Farmers through collection and sale of Honey.

Banas Dairy with an Annual turnover of more than 8 thousand crore and in terms of daily procurement of Milk is the largest Dairy of Asia and also the biggest member of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) which also is popularly known as AMUL.
