Yoga for all: Army Dog Unit celebrated world yoga day

International Day of Yoga was celebrated all over the World on 21 June with all the enthusiasm and fervour. Preparations in India, “The Yoga Guru of the World” were started much before the D day and the fitness enthusiast were seen gearing for the event.

Army dog unit an elite Dog Unit of Indian Army too joined the world Yoga Day celebrations and has posted cute pictures of Dogs performing Yoga alongside their handlers. In a show of extreme discipline, the Canines were seen adopting different Yoga poses giving tough competition to their Handlers. The message was loud and clear for all the Yoga lovers that fitness belongs to everyone. These pictures would surely motivate and encourage people who are yet to adopt Yoga and the Young generation looking for an easy and effective means of keeping themselves healthy.

The Army Dog Unit consists of Dogs trained by Remount and Veterinary Corps. The most preferred breed of Dogs is German Shepard and Labradors as they are intelligent, agile and easy to train. Their work involve search and rescue operations where they have to assist in recovering explosives.

The idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the PM Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on 27 September 2014. When proposing 21 June as the date, Modi said that the date was the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere (shortest in the southern hemisphere), having special significance in many parts of the world.
