The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) has set an ambitious target of achieving a turnover of ₹10,000 crore by 2030-31, nearly doubling its current business size as it seeks to strengthen its presence in domestic and international markets. The announcement was made by Milma Chairman K. S. Mani during the Kerala Retail Conclave held in Kochi.
Milma, one of India's leading dairy cooperatives, recorded a turnover of ₹4,344 crore in 2025-26, while recent financial data indicate revenue growth to over ₹4,624 crore, reflecting steady expansion in milk procurement and sales.
The federation's growth strategy revolves around increasing milk procurement, expanding its value-added product portfolio, and strengthening distribution networks. Milma currently passes nearly 83% of its sales revenue directly to dairy farmers, reinforcing its farmer-centric cooperative model.
A key driver of future growth will be the expansion of value-added dairy products such as curd, yoghurt, ghee, flavoured milk, buttermilk and frozen products. Internal federation documents indicate that value-added products currently contribute around 20% of total sales, with plans to significantly increase this share in the coming years.
Milma is also looking beyond Kerala's borders. The cooperative has entered into a strategic partnership with the Lulu Group to access overseas markets and is leveraging e-commerce channels to widen its national footprint.
Industry observers note that Kerala continues to import nearly half of its milk requirement from other states despite ranking among India's top milk-producing regions in terms of productivity. This supply gap presents a significant opportunity for investment and production expansion within the state's dairy sector.
If achieved, the ₹10,000 crore milestone would place Milma among India's fastest-growing dairy cooperatives, although it would still remain significantly smaller than dairy giant Amul, whose turnover crossed ₹1 lakh crore in FY 2025-26.
With rising consumer demand for branded dairy products, growing organised retail penetration and increasing focus on value-added offerings, Milma's ambitious roadmap reflects the broader transformation underway in India's cooperative dairy sector.
