Balanced Nutrition is critical to boost productivity: Dr Inderjeet Singh, VC GADVASU

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized a one day workshop on “Recent Trends in Livestock Nutrition to optimize their Productivity”. Dr P S Brar, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, briefed that the workshop was part of Livestock Nutritional Awareness Week being organized by the University to enlighten the farmers regarding the importance of balanced nutrition for livestock. Dr U S Chahal, Head, Department of Animal Nutrition welcomed the dignitaries and delegates to the workshop. He also enumerated various facilities being provided by the department for the benefit of farmers. Dr J P S Gill, Director of Research, highlighted the research achievements of the University in the field of animal nutrition.

Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU remarked that promoting balanced nutrition is critical to boosting the productivity of livestock in India. Livestock keepers must embrace the latest technological developments for feeding the management of their animals. He pointed out that the university is making constant efforts to promote livestock farming in the state through research and extension. Farmers must keep in touch with the experts of the university to get the latest information on recent technologies. 

Experts in the field of animal nutrition enlightened the audience on nutritional interventions for profitability in livestock farming. Dr N N Pathak spoke on the benefits of fortification of dry fodder for dairy animals. He stressed that the process has the potential to reduce the existing fodder deficit. Dr S Vardhan talked about rectifying measures for problems experienced by the farmers during silage making. Dr S K Saha focused on the utilization of unconventional feeds for dairy animals. Dr Parminder Singh engaged the audience in a discussion on the application of feeding techniques for increasing the productivity of broilers. Dr U S Chahal talked about nutritional interventions for profitability in pig farming. He also shared information on various nutritional products available for purchase from the department. An exhibition on publications of the university was also organized on the occasion. The Vice-Chancellor lauded the efforts of the directorate in creating awareness regarding the latest technological developments in the livestock sector.
