KMF asked to buy Maize directly from the Farmers

In an apparent bid to provide relief from middlemen and good price for their produce, Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy has asked Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) to purchase Maize for their cattle feed plant directly from the Farmers. KMF is directed to purchase around 2lakh Metric Tons of maize at a MSP of 1300Rs per quintal. This decision was taken during a cabinet meeting The meeting was attended by PWD minister H D Revanna, Animal Husbandry minister Venkatarao Nadagouda, KMF Managing Director Raksh Singh, Finance Department additional chief secretary I N S Prasad and others.

During the meeting Kumaraswamy also said that the total production of maize during the current season was expected to be to the tune of 54 lakh metric tonnes and organisations like KMF purchasing maize directly from farmers can help them from exploitation in the hands of middlemen. He said the government is ready to provide grant of Rs 50 to various cooperative milk unions for this purpose.

This move by the Government should bring some relief to the farmers who are reeling under debts  on one hand braving Natural forces on the other. The maize production in the state is expected to cross more than 54 lakh Metric tons this year.
