Government moots forming a separate council for Research in Animal Husbandry

Pashu Sandesh, 25 June 2019

Heeding to the long-standing demand of Vets for a separate council other than Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) to undertake the Research in the Veterinary field, Government of India has mooted a proposal for the creation of a New council under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. A committee is formed consisting of Officials and eminent Personalities from the Veterinary Field to undertake this arduous task of creation of New council.

The function of the committee would be to Develop mechanism of creation of a new council, to suggest a suitable name for the council, to develop mission, vision and mandate of the proposed council, to propose Human resource and Budget for the effective implementation of system of research, to develop associations, bylaws of the council, to suggest thrust areas of research including extension of Fisheries, Animal and Dairy Sector activities.

The proposed Council would include Institutions of Animal and Veterinary Science, Dairy Science, Fishery Science and associated subjects.

With the formation of a separate Ministry of Fishery, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in the Modi Sarkar 2.0 the things have started looking up North for the stakeholders of the Animal Husbandry sector who have always stood for the demand for a separate Council for the quality Research in Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fishery.

Vets have always demanded the formation of Indian Council of Veterinary Research for undertaking the Veterinary research which is presently being undertaken through ICAR. Hopefully, the formation of a new council would be completed soon. May this be the “Acche Din for the Veterinary Research”.
