Arunachal Vets celebrate World Veterinary Day

Officers from the Animal husbandry department, Veterinary, and Dairy Development department celebrated the World Veterinary Day at the Arunachal State legislative assembly auditorium at Itanagar on 28th April. The function was also attended by more than 200 progressive Farmers and 22 Livestock entrepreneurs.

Chief Guest on the occasion was the Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Chowna Mein. In his address, he called upon the Veterinarians to take up the task of upgrading the Animal Husbandry sector to make it a sustainable and major contributor to the livelihood of the farmers. He emphasized the importance of Research along with the development. He also informed that the state government has allocated 7.5 crore funds for the development of Dairy and Animal Husbandry.

Minister of Animal husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy development Mohesh Chai called upon the Officers from the Veterinary Department to come with the innovative ideas. He also called upon the Animal Husbandry department to focus on the Poultry, Piggery and cattle farming since the consumption of meat in the state is very high and this sector has all the potential to provide sustainable development and livelihood and could significantly contribute to doubling the income of the Farmers by 2022 as also envisaged by the Prime Minister. He also informed that state quota for Veterinary doctors is increased from 12 to 15 at the Central Agricultural University Imphal in 2017-18.

Commissioner Animal Husbandry G S Meena urged the Vets to maintain Healthy Livestock as it is the ready alternative source of income to Farmer. He also advised the Vets to provide training to at least 10 Farmers in a year through extension activities.

Director of AHV Dr. N D Minto, President of Arunachal Pradesh Veterinary Association Dr. T Taku and General Secretary Arunachal Pradesh Veterinary Association Dr. M Loyi also addressed the gathering on the occasion of World Veterinary Day.
